STORYLINE
Nathalie Sancoeur, known in the shadows as Mayura, serves as Gabriel Agreste’s assistant by day, but her role extends far beyond mere administrative tasks. Officially, she is his loyal right-hand; unofficially, she is his devoted accomplice in his mysterious quest for Miraculous powers. Despite her cold and inscrutable exterior, Nathalie harbors a deep care for Adrien, Gabriel’s son, reflecting a complex blend of duty and affection.
As Mayura, the holder of the Peacock Miraculous, Nathalie possesses the power of emotion, which she wields through her alter ego with the help of her kwami, Duusu. Her transformation allows her to create sentimonsters, beings formed from the emotions of others, which she uses to assist Gabriel in his alter ego as Hawk Moth. Her costume as Mayura is as enigmatic and elegant as her personality, adorned with peacock feather motifs that symbolize her ability to influence and manipulate feelings.
Within the Agreste household, Nathalie’s role subtly shifts towards that of a substitute mother to Adrien. It was she who convinced Gabriel to allow Adrien more freedom, persuading him to let his son attend school and experience a semblance of normal teenage life. This act of kindness shows a softer side to Nathalie, revealing her complex relationship with both father and son—a relationship tinged with loyalty, sacrifice, and hidden warmth.
Despite her involvement in Gabriel’s dark endeavors, Nathalie’s affection for Adrien remains genuine. She often finds herself torn between her duties as Mayura and her protective instincts towards him. This internal conflict adds layers to her character, making her one of the more intriguing figures in the narrative.
Through her journey as Mayura, Nathalie explores the depths of loyalty and the cost of power. Her dedication to Gabriel’s cause tests her moral boundaries, while her care for Adrien challenges her to reconsider the consequences of their quest. Nathalie’s character arc is not just about the struggle for miraculous powers; it’s also about her personal redemption and the search for balance between darkness and light within herself.
